Non-firing clay is a natural modelling clay that self-hardens in the air without firing, giving strong, durable and solid results. Being clay, it has very good plasticity for modelling and its natural cellulose fibres allow it to dry without cracks, even in large pieces. It allows you to create very fine details when modelling. It can be modelled and shaped on a potter's wheel. It is easy to clean from hands and clothes using water. It is easy to remove any residue from surfaces and furniture using a damp cloth. Once dry, it can be painted or varnished. It can also be polished, tiled or perforated. After complete drying (4 to 5 days), it can be waterproofed to make non-food airtight containers. It stays stable in its original packaging for a minimum period of 2 years.

Instructions:

Cleans easily with water on hands and clothes. A damp cloth easily removes any remaining product from surfaces and furniture.

Once dry, it can be painted or varnished. It can also be polished, tiled or perforated. It can be waterproofed after complete drying (4-5 days) to make waterproof non-food containers.

Remains unalterable in its original packaging conditions for a minimum period of 2 years.

Applications:

  • It is recommended to knead the clay before starting the work.
  • If the clay loses plasticity, to recover it, it is enough to slightly moisten the hands.
  • Can also be molded (we recommend plaster molds) and turned in a potter's wheel.
  • To join two pieces of clay together, first scratch the parts to be joined with a spatula or a punch and then moisten with a brush using a slip (clay mixed with water until a liquid texture is obtained).
  • In the case of angled joints, reinforce the joint with a small clay roller, extending it along the angle and then press and smooth the joint with a spatula.
  • To join 2 pieces that are already dry, use conventional glue.
  • It is not recommended to join a dry piece with a wet one since the union will crack due to the contraction during the drying of the wet piece.
  • To smooth and polish surfaces to a very clean finish, use a damp sponge.
  • It is possible to make solid objects or very thin walls with optimal results.
  • To make hollow objects, it is possible to use rigid or flexible supports.
  • If the paste is used wrapping rigid inner supports (of metal, plastic, wood or plaster), it is recommended to cover the support with a layer of paper or canvas to promote the contraction of the clay during drying and prevent the appearance of cracks.

Conservation:

  • As long as it has not dried, Gedeo no-fire clay can be reused and stored indefinitely in a damp cloth inside a tightly sealed plastic bag.
  • During work interruptions, cover the object with plastic or a damp cloth.
  • Store product in a cool environment, avoiding high temperatures.
  • Do not store below 0 degrees C. If the product freezes, it will lose its properties.

Drying:

  • Once the object is finished, let it air dry.
  • Maximum hardness and resistance are obtained between 4 and 5 days at room temperature.
  • Drying can be accelerated by exposing the objects to a heat source. It is possible to increase the hardness by finalizing the drying in a domestic oven between 100 and 110 degrees C.
  • During the drying process, the unfired clay shrinks. The more water the clay contains, the greater its shrinkage during drying.
  • In case of realization of very large pieces or very difficult drying, it is recommended to model the clay after having let it dry slightly and homogenize through kneading.
